The American Public Health Association’s Annual Meeting brings together public health professionals and other participants to share the latest research and information, learn, network and engage with their peers. The opinions, statements, presentations, data, images, videos, documents and other information expressed or otherwise shared by presenters or other participants at the Annual Meeting are for informational purposes only. The views and opinions expressed by presenters are not those of APHA, unless expressly indicated otherwise. APHA nor its board or council members, directors, officers, employees, or agents shall be responsible for the accuracy, quality or reliability of any of the materials presented, or liable for any incidental, special, consequential damages or other arising therefrom.
Media and Recording Policy
APHA and news media will take photos and videos during the Annual Meeting. By attending the Meeting, each participant consents to being filmed, photographed and recorded during and in connection with the Meeting and consent to the use or publication of such recordings in connection with any promotional, educational or professional purposes. Each participant releases APHA and its board or council members, directors, officers, employees, or agents from any and all liability arising from the recordings or their uses, including for infringement of proprietary rights, invasion of privacy, defamation or any other cause of action, and waives any right to inspect or approve such recordings and any and all rights to payment of royalties in connection therewith.
Only APHA’s authorized vendors and working journalist are permitted to video and/or audio-record scientific sessions. Recording or streaming APHA sessions without prior authorization from APHA is strictly prohibited.
Flyers and handouts may not be posted on any hotel or convention center walls as APHA will be fined and will be responsible for clean-up costs. For crowd control, safety and consideration of all attendees, no flyers or handouts can be distributed directly outside of meeting rooms or exhibit halls.

The Annual Meeting is a harassment-free conference for everyone regardless of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age or religion. Conference participants who display inappropriate behavior or create a disturbance or safety hazard are prohibited inside any meeting facility and will be asked to leave the meeting. If you are being harassed or notice an act of harassment, contact a conference staff member immediately.
APHA shall not be responsible for any defamatory, offensive, or illegal conduct of Annual Meeting participants, and shall not be held liable for personal injury, property damage, theft or damage of any kind suffered by the participants at or in connection with the Annual Meeting.
By registering for and attending the APHA Annual Meeting, each participant acknowledges that it has read this Disclaimer, and expressly releases APHA and its board or council members, directors, officers, employees, or agents from any and all liability in connection with such Meeting as provided herein.
Morbidity and mortality related to firearms and other dangerous weapons continues to be a significant public health problem. The San Diego Convention Center and our headquarters hotel are firearms-free with exceptions for licensed law enforcement and security personnel. APHA policy prohibits concealed firearms, open carry guns and possession of weapons of any kind at the convention center and headquarters hotel where our Annual Meeting takes place in compliance with all federal, state and local laws and in accordance with sound public health practice and long-standing APHA policy statements on injury and violence prevention.
Healthy Meetings Policy
APHA has signed the Healthy Meeting Pledge, recognizing that creating a culture of health and wellness in meetings and conferences is an important way to help people eat well and be physically active, foster healthier work environments and cultivate social norms around healthier choices and behaviors. It is our goal to provide our attendees with healthy food choices, to offer a smoke-free meeting environment, to encourage physical activity and to make our meeting more sustainable by reducing waste and promoting recycling whenever possible.
Smoke-Free Meetings Policy
APHA is a long-time champion of reducing tobacco use and promoting smoke-free environments. Our dedication to that cause includes hosting a smoke-free Annual Meeting and Expo (this includes tobacco-, e-cigarettes - and marijuana-free).
Our Annual Meeting draws thousands of attendees each year, convening in the few major U.S. cities that have the capacity for our large gathering. Many of these cities have instituted key policies aimed at improving the public's health, including keeping public venues and workplaces smoke-free.
In 2004, recognizing the continued harmful effects of tobacco use and wanting to reward those venues that had passed comprehensive smoke-free laws, APHA's Governing Council passed a policy that made a commitment to hold all future Annual Meetings in smoke-free cities. More recently we have expanded our tobacco-free policy to include electronic cigarettes.
In cases where APHA has contracted with cities with smoke-free laws that have obvious gaps, we have worked with our affiliated state and regional public health associations and other partners to support local efforts to adopt more comprehensive policies on tobacco use.
We will continue to strongly advocate for comprehensive smoke-free laws to protect the health of our attendees, other visitors, workers and the residents who live there.
